HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – An Instagram tip forwarded to the FBI’s CyberTipline was instrumental in the arrest of a Las Vegas man accused of extorting a Hawaii teenager for sexually explicit images. Al Justin Carter, 24, who frequently visits Waianae, was indicted on October 15 for coercion and enticement of a minor, following his arrest in Waianae on a bench warrant on October 14.
According to court documents, the 13-year-old victim had met Carter in person before. The FBI reviewed direct messages allegedly sent by Carter, where he threatened to release explicit video content of the victim unless she provided him with new videos. He is scheduled to appear in federal court in Honolulu for a detention hearing on Tuesday, with prosecutors seeking to have him held without bail. If convicted, Carter faces potential life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release.
