HONOLULU (Hawaii News Now) – Kaimuki High School is set to unveil its annual Halloween haunted house, titled ‘Theatre of Terrors: OZ’, which opens this Friday at the Kaimuki High School Performing Arts Center. This year’s attraction draws inspiration from The Wizard of Oz, presenting a more sinister take on Dorothy’s adventure, where familiar characters like the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Lion take on unexpected roles.
Students have dedicated themselves to crafting the immersive experience since September, designing the narrative and constructing the sets, costumes, makeup, and props. Director Noah Punohu Nakachi praised the creativity of the students, stating, ‘The students built almost everything that you see,’ highlighting their original ideas. Over 40 performers and stage technicians from Kaimuki High and other schools are participating in the production. This marks the fifth year for this haunted house at the performing arts center, with proceeds benefiting student productions, theater materials, and travel costs. ‘All of the proceeds go directly back to the students,’ Nakachi noted, encouraging attendance to support them. The haunted house will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. on Fridays through Sundays and again from October 28 to 30. General admission is $20, with a recommendation for ages 13 and older and a ‘Low Scare’ option available on request. Tickets can be purchased at khspac.org.
