Egg prices spike in Honolulu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Over the past year, the cost of eggs in Honolulu has increased by $1.02 per dozen, based on market analysis from the Hawaii Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity. From June 30, 2025, to June 30, 2026, egg prices saw an 11% rise, while the U.S. mainland experienced a slight increase of just over 1%. The average price for a dozen eggs in Honolulu now stands at $10.06, compared to $7.87 on the continent.

Significantly, prices for local organic eggs have surged even more, jumping from $10.81 to $13.19 per dozen, marking a 22% increase. Conversely, organic egg prices on the mainland saw a lesser increase of under 7%, moving from $9.62 to $10.26. Amid these rising costs, the department advises residents to support local farmers. “If you want the best, buy local,” stated Sharon Hurd, chairperson of the Hawaii Board of Agriculture. She highlighted that spending money on local eggs keeps funds within the island, benefiting workers and local agriculture. For those looking to cut costs, a drop in the price of eighteen-count cartons of conventional eggs was noted, decreasing from $14.05 to $13.23 last quarter, representing nearly a 6% decline.
