Repairs begin on portion of Makapuu Lookout

HONOLULU (Hawaii News Now) – A section of the Makapuu Lookout has been closed for repairs starting Wednesday and is expected to last for two weeks. The work is being conducted by crews from the Department of Land and Natural Resources on the Makapuu Lookout area of the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline, with the completion targeted for Wednesday, November 4, depending on weather conditions.

While repair activities are in progress at the lookout to the north, hikers will still have access to the main Makapuu Point Lighthouse Trail and its parking lot. It is important to note that the entire upper viewing area will be closed. Work is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with partial closures anticipated from 2:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. throughout the week and on weekends. However, some viewing options will remain available at the upper viewing platform after 2:30 p.m. Abhe & Svoboda, Inc. is managing the project, and construction signage detailing closure information is displayed at the lookout.
