HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Athletics invites community involvement in the annual Vulcan Challenge, a fundraising initiative running until October 23. This month-long campaign focuses on generating support for scholarships, travel, training, and other essential resources for the school’s 12 NCAA Division II athletic teams.
This year, contributions are especially impactful, as donors can unlock over $46,000 in matching gifts. A partnership with KTA Super Stores and the Taniguchi ʻohana will match the first $25,000 donated, while the Vulcan Booster Club adds a $13,000 match. Additionally, the Hawaiʻi Rush Soccer Club Big Island will contribute $5,000 specifically for women’s soccer, and Athletics Director Patrick Guillen will match the first $250 given to each program, including sports medicine.
