HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Rail construction is set to begin on a segment of Halekauwila Street, which runs between Richards and Cooke streets, creating noise and road closures that will last for several years. This area, populated with high-rises and small businesses, will turn into a construction site starting Monday.
Owner Courtney Monahan of the Paiko plant shop expressed concern over the potential noise disrupting her business, which has brought joy and greenery to the community for three years. Resident Sue Radcliffe echoed those worries but also anticipated the positive benefits for Hawaii’s future. Lori Kahikina, CEO of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation, acknowledged the noise issue but assured that work would be mostly limited to weekdays, with 24/7 work permitted if necessary. Despite the challenges, Kahikina reassured that business access would remain available, and alternative parking options would be explored.
