New Play Area Unveiled at Nehu Neighborhood Park

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A brand new playground officially opened on Friday at Nehu Neighborhood Park, located in Aina Haina. The Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation marked the occasion with a blessing ceremony at the site.

This playground draws inspiration from the Native Hawaiian ahupua’a system, particularly the loko ia, or Hawaiian fishponds, and incorporates representations of local marine and plant life. Among its features are two slides, a double swing set, a 40-foot by 40-foot resilient surfacing play area, benches, seating, educational signage, and accessible pathways. Built by Inspired Play Hawaii, this $394,000 project began construction in May, replacing an older playground in the park that was removed due to safety concerns. The new facility marks the 136th playground and the 14th city swing set established on Oahu.
