HONOLULU (Hawaii News Now) – A community-driven initiative on Molokai dedicated to the welfare of stray animals is set to hold a fundraising concert this Saturday. The event aims to support the Molokai Community Veterinary Hui (MCVH), which operates out of a donated shipping container. Currently, Hawaii veterinarians utilize this space to address a severe crisis involving stray and sick animals, as there are no resident veterinarians on the island.
Letisha Kolb from MCVH shared that the costs associated with seeking veterinary care on Oahu are often prohibitive for residents. “Unless you have money, you can jump on a plane and quick fly over to an emergency room on Oahu. But I’m going to tell you, we don’t have that kind of money here,” she explained. The concert will feature performances from Grammy Award-winning artists like Uncle George Kahumoku Jr. and Daniel Ho, along with Molokai’s Lono. Families can also enjoy a free keiki ʻukulele workshop, hula, crafts, and raffle prizes. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m., and the event will conclude at 7:30 p.m., with all proceeds directed towards medical supplies and veterinary care for families in need.
