HONOLULU (Hawaii News Now) – The iconic Aloha Tower, positioned at the entrance of Honolulu Harbor, has undergone an $8.5 million rehabilitation and is now open to the public, celebrating its 100-year anniversary. Dre Kalili, deputy director for the state Department of Transportation Harbors Division, announced the reopening after years of closure, particularly of the observation deck during the COVID-19 pandemic. This marks a return for visitors to enjoy spectacular views of the harbor and the busy ports.
As part of the centennial celebrations, a free event called Anchored in Aloha is hosted at the Aloha Tower Marketplace, featuring live music, food trucks, and a drone show. State Sen. Sharon Moriwaki and Rep. Darius Kila emphasized the tower’s significance, urging the community to continue to embrace and recognize its historical importance as a symbol of resilience and connectivity for future generations.
