HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – This year, Farrington High School’s JROTC program is commemorating its 80th anniversary. The Governor’s Guard Battalion was established in 1946, shortly after World War II concluded. Sgt. Maj. Luke Granadosin, a graduate from 1995 and one of the school’s military instructors, emphasized that the JROTC began a decade after the school itself was founded in 1936.
Over the years, expectations among cadets have evolved significantly. Granadosin noted that early participants primarily aimed to finish high school and possibly join the military or pursue higher education. Nowadays, students are more focused on lifestyle changes and career opportunities post-graduation. Cadet Aldine Fabro mentioned ambitions for prestigious military academies and ROTC programs. Currently, Farrington’s JROTC features over 200 cadets, making it the largest JROTC program in the state, and aims to foster better citizenship while providing crucial leadership opportunities.
