Hawaii falls to New Mexico, 21-10 on homecoming night

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – On Saturday night, the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors faced a tough challenge in their homecoming game, ultimately falling to the New Mexico Lobos by a score of 21-10. The game started positively for the Warriors, who took an early lead with a field goal from Sean Olvera-Harle and a touchdown pass from quarterback Micah Alejado to wide receiver Titan Lacaden. The first half ended with Hawaii leading 10-0, thanks to their defense preventing New Mexico from scoring.

However, the second half saw a turnaround as New Mexico scored 21 unanswered points, including 14 in the fourth quarter. With just over two minutes remaining, Hawaii’s final drive ended abruptly with an interception. Alejado finished the game with 23 completions on 40 attempts for 250 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. This loss brings the Warriors’ season record to 1-6 and 0-4 in their conference play. Head coach Timmy Chang praised his team’s effort, acknowledging the challenge posed by their opponents. Next, Hawaii will travel to DeKalb, Illinois, to take on the Northern Illinois Huskies on Saturday, Oct. 24, with coverage starting at 9 a.m. on K5 or via the Mountain West+ app.
