HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Konawaena High School gym has reopened, following extensive repairs necessitated by damage from the March Kona lows. For seven months, many in the West Hawaii community felt left uninformed about the status of the gym, prompting concerns from parents.
Parent Siu Clark, who has strong ties to the school, voiced her frustrations, sharing that communication from school officials was lacking. The gym serves as an essential hub for students, and its closure was said to affect their mental wellness and athletic opportunities. Additionally, the gym’s operational schedule indicates it will be fully functional until late October, after which it will close again for further repairs. Meanwhile, the Kealakehe High School gym remains open for practices, but not for games as repair plans are finalized.
