Oahu surf instructor creates welcoming space for women learning to surf

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – If you’re contemplating catching your first wave, a passionate surf instructor in Hawaii is championing a welcoming environment specifically for women and girls to cultivate their confidence in the ocean. Hella, the founder of Hella Surf Hawaii, discussed her mission during Sunrise on Sunday morning, emphasizing her commitment to helping novices feel secure in the water, while also inviting others to join the movement.

Having conquered her own anxieties about surfing later in life, Hella aims to provide a safe and nurturing space for all women to enjoy the ocean experience. With a background rooted in the arts and a degree in exercise science, she moved to O‘ahu in 2021 after falling in love with the ocean while working in a local hostel. Now, as a licensed behavior technician while also pursuing her master’s degree, she guides young women and other beginners in surfing, emphasizing a supportive learning atmosphere tailored to individual needs.
